the cure - friday i'm in love - may, 1992.
spent a whole day before this to choreograph the bloody dropping backdrops, band costume changes, entrances and exits, etc. don’t know why, really. does it show? is the pope a vid'jo director?! you have to be pragmatic and say well had we not then what? at the start that's me on the rocking horse with the loud-hailer sporting the arthur daley suede coat and cowboy hat - and, after, a slug of helium to create the high voice effect. i do something wacky with chains. you know the type of thing: a just-desperate-to-be-liked deal. a spot of on-camera malarkey. it was the cure’s idea to have a [curry delivered] in the middle part. the guy avec turban who delivers the food is [chris parry] [a.k.a. bill], their manager, now retired with a healthy bank balance, back to his native new zealand where he mucks about on sailing boats - and the bloke who comes in and lifts up a gold sun behind the drummer's head was their record producer dave allen. most of the extra characters are played by the band’s at that time “favoured inner court circle” - their roadies, drivers, etc. oh, and me... did i meantion i get it there, too??
